Tuesday, June 26, 2007 Aspect Radio will be participating in the National Day of Silence in protest of increased webcaster royalty rates. Internet radio as we know it is on the verge of collapse. Royalty rates for have been drastically increased (to the point it seriously threatens all Internet radio stations, big and small) by a recent ruling and are due to go into effect on July 15, 2007 and are retroactive to January 1, 2006!(Isn't it great how the law can work backwards in time in the US?). The exorbitant fees are to be imposed only on webcasters, and it is unfair to us, as brodcasters, and you, the listeners, that these royalty rates far surpass those of both satellite and traditional terrestrial radio. In protest of these rates we have joined the Day of Silence campaign which encourages broadcasters to participate and the millions of net radio listeners to take action and contact their Congressional Representatives. Webcasters across the country will observe this day of silence in a number of ways, including dedicating entire programs to the campaign to save Internet Radio and broadcasting complete silence. We will be stopping our regular rotation, as well as live shows in protest. For an updated list of the participants in this national day of silence, visit http://www.kurthanson.com/dos/. Webcasters who would like to participate in the day of silence, place contact the SaveNetRadio coalition at dayofsilence@savenetradio.org. Please excuse the interruption we know you love your music, and of course so do we, that's why we all need to show our disapproval of this rate increase. Call your Congressional Representatives today, and if you don't know who or how, that's been taken care of thanks to savenetradio.org. Just click here and put in your zip code. It only takes a few minutes of your time to leave a message that will help out all webcasters to continue to deliver you hours of online music. Thank you for your support.
